INTASC Standard 2 - Knowlege of Human Development and Learning
"The teacher understands how children learn and develop, and can provide learning opportunities that support their intellectual, social, and personal development."
As a teacher you must understand how and why your students develop and how they learn and asses knowledge. For a student to get the most out of this it is up o the educator to present the material to them as easily as possible so that they can get the full affect of development and learning As a freshman in college we are being shown deep into the process of how children learn and develop through both physical aspects and mental aspects. I plan to observe as I go through my education process while at Ball State. Through observations and Music Education classes offered at BSU I will further my knowledge in how students develop and learn.
In the adolescence stage, children can often alter the ways that they have traditionally approached education, either because of their own mental thoughts or other outside influences. I as an educator must also alter my teaching skills by offering activities and opportunists so that all children have an equal opportunity to learn. I can take a step away from traditional assessment methods and offer students more involved activities that they can excel in.
As an instrumental educator, I must be able to provide learning opportunities for all students. This includes providing both cognitive based and psychomotor based activities while still allowing for student growth in the classroom. The teacher must provide a multitude of teaching strategies that allows for all students to be actively involved in the music classroom while still allowing for performance based opportunities for their students.
Brass Techniques Log
This artifact shows my research and discussion of brass instruments and the mechanics behind them. It is important for music educators to understand how equipment works, how students use it and the basic history of it. This information can also be used to understand how students develop and how I as a teacher can adjust my teaching habits to best fit a students needs.

Repertoire Analysis for Elementary General Music
This artifact shows an in depth analysis of a variety of lessons associated with elementary general music. The grade levels in which these concepts are given to students is a crucial one. As an educator I must know every aspect of the information I am giving students and the proper techniques in which I can give this information to students.

Educational Psychology
This research paper shows an extensive look at how children between the ages of six (beginning elementary) to adolescent (end of high school) cope with divorce in their family. This issue is still growing today. Teachers must be aware of the backgrounds in which their students come from to fully understand how their students are able to grasp this information and continue to develop with it in an already complicated context.
