Domain 2: Purposeful Planning
Teachers use content area standards to develop a rigorous curriculum relevant for all students; building meaningful units of study, continuous assessments and a system for tracking student progress as well as plans for accommodations and changes in response to a lack of student progress.
1.) There is evidence that the teacher develops challenging and measureable annual student achievement goals with clear benchmarks to help monitor learning and inform interventions throughout the year.
Music Theory - Unit 1 Test - High School Band
- This unit test shows all information that should be mastered before advancing to the second unit of information. The details in this assessment show the basic fundamentals and stepping stones that students must understand about music theory before new information is added.

2.) The teacher plans instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, student interests and curriculum goals.
Marching Band Project - 7th Grade Band
- This project allows students to use previous knowledge and instruction to develop their own marching band show. Students were given freed and guidelines as well to develop their project.

3.) The teacher plans daily lessons by:
- identifying lesson objectives that are aligned to standards
- matching instructional strategies to the lesson objectives
- designing routine assessments that measure progress towards mastery
Mr. Slonikers Chalk Board
- This is a picture of how Mr. Sloniker organizes his daily plans and objectives so that students can physically see our goals for that class period. Mr. Sloniker also makes a point to verbally say the days agenda and objectives.
4.) There is evidence the teacher designs meaningful and relevant assignments that fully engage students and clearly connect activities and assessment to student understanding.
751 Sheep Listening Lesson - General Music 7
- This lesson takes a song that all students have heard, and adds a modern twist musically to it. Students were asked to listen to the song and choose between an option a and b. This helped increase student awareness to songs and increase aural awareness while listening to music in my class.

5.) There is evidence the teacher plans instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, students interests, the community, and the curriculum goals in a culturally responsive manner.
Halloween Music Quiz - Grades 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12
- During the month of October, Mr. Sloniker asked students to break off into teams and answer a series of questions dealing specifically with Halloween music over the past 50 years. Students were read the following questions, asked to record the questions down, and collaborate with fellow students on a mutual answer. This helped encourage team building and student relationships inside the classroom. This quiz also provided outside knowledge of music students were already aware of.
