INTASC Standard 5 - Classroom Motivation and Management Skills
"The teacher uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation."
Students should feel comfortable in any environment. This is crucial so that students can perform to the best of their ability. The teacher should provide several situations where the students can feel free to participate in the various activities that a teacher has planned for them. After being involved in band and music programs for seven years and have had the opportunity of having three different band directors, I have been exposed to several different instructional approaches to subject matter, music literature and so forth. I have also been involved in several learning environments , including negative, where the students feel uncomfortable with the environment and also a positive environment where students feel they have the full capability to learn music. I believe that field observations will be the best tool when dealing with this standard. Experiencing various teaching methods and environments is the way to see what style should fit you when teaching students about music.
I firmly believe that students to not learn on their own. For a child to have a successful education, they must have positive relationships fellow peers, parents and teachers. As an educator, my classroom will support a positive learning, good self esteem and will serve as a building ground for relationships that students can use in the future. I will heavily support self-motivation so that students may take the best away from their academic career. I feel this is one of the most important characteristics that students need at the adolescence stage.
In an ensemble setting, teamwork and interaction with one and other peers is a necessity for success. As an educator I must provide opportunities for my students to become self motivated to accomplish goals and allow for social interaction at the same time. A students behavior can help progress or hinder the overall progress of an ensemble. It is my job as a teacher to allow for the progression of student behavior as students interact with one another. I must provide an excellent environment for these actions to place to ensure that the overall classroom environment is comfortable for students to learn in.
Lessons Project for Instrumental Techniques
In this project I was able to give one of my peers an instrumental lesson using the techniques we had learned class. Understanding how to motivate students to strive for more is an important aspect of teaching. The information I have been able to gather for experiences such as this have helped me to improve my technique and enhance my motivation skills toward my students.

Grading Policy for Music Administration
Teaching is not the only aspect of music. This artifact demonstrates how I as a teacher must be able to grade and assess my students on an accurate and fair level. Through the information I gather in this policy I have a better understanding on how to motivate students and increase their musicianship within the classroom.
